about_1At age 8 Robert Sliwowski a.k.a. Bobby Chez was selling fruit flavored snowballs from his small wagon. Most of the older kids offered three flavors. Bobby offered ten. At age fifteen, Bobby and his mom Phyllis worked the hot dog concession at Woodcrest Country Club. At age twenty-three, Sliwowski operated the kitchen of the Country Squire Motor Lodge. After six months of operation, Bobby decided to open his own restaurant…South Jersey’s legendary Chez Robert was born. He was the owner/chef of Chez Robert from 1976 until 1995 at it’s three different locations.

flipIn 1997, Sliwowski opened Bobby Chez Seafood Specialties in Voorhees , NJ with his late father’s Crabcake recipe and his mom Phyllis by his side. The Bobby Chez signature Famous Jumbo Lump Crabcake, a 5 ounce, hand rolled, lightly breaded Crabcake immediately took off, and soon customers were standing in line around the building of the small store in Voorhees. The demand prompted Sliwowski and his mom to move to a larger space with retail in the front and a commissary in the rear, at The Village Walk shopping center in Cherry Hill.

about_trayTen years later, sales of the Bobby Chez Famous Jumbo Lump Crabcake exceeds 30,000 a week, including wholesale sales to a variety of restaurants, Shop Rite and Acme supermarkets. The menu has expanded over the years to include lobster mashed potatoes, fresh vegetable side dishes, rotisserie chicken , chicken and lobster pot pies, daily fresh seafood specials and more. With locations in Cherry Hill, Mt. Laurel, Collingswood, Margate, Washington Township, Center City  and our newest location in Egg Harbor Township NJ, the Bobby Chez name has become synonymous with high quality fresh prepared gourmet seafood take out.

momSadly, Bobby’s mom Phyllis passed away in July 2006 but the Crabcake that she helped to make famous is still made the way that mom did…by hand
